General information, not individual medical advice. This article cannot take account of your medical history, medicines or circumstances. Speak to a GP, pharmacist or other healthcare professional before making significant changes to what you eat or to any treatment, particularly if you have a medical condition, follow a prescribed diet, take medicines affected by food intake, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have an eating disorder now or in the past.

The NHS says it is best to avoid alcohol while using tirzepatide because it can make side effects such as nausea and vomiting worse. That matters most when symptoms are already present or around a dose increase. Read the NHS advice on tirzepatide and alcohol.

There is another consideration for people using Mounjaro to manage type 2 diabetes. Alcohol can affect blood-glucose levels, and a hospital information sheet notes that alcohol and tirzepatide can both lower glucose, potentially contributing to light-headedness or dizziness. The risk of hypoglycaemia is especially important if tirzepatide is used alongside insulin or a sulphonylurea; a diabetes clinician can advise based on the full medication plan. Cambridge University Hospitals explains this interaction.

Do not skip or change a prescribed dose to make drinking easier. If you are unsure what is safe for you, particularly if you have diabetes, frequent nausea, dehydration or a history of low blood sugar, ask your prescriber or pharmacist.

If you have severe persistent abdominal pain, seek urgent medical help rather than assuming it is an alcohol-related stomach upset. In an emergency call 999; for urgent advice that is not an emergency, call NHS 111.
